Eid Al - Fitr, a festive celebration to mark the end of Ramadan occurs this month for Muslims around the world. Translated into Arabic, it means 'festival of breaking the fast,' and the festival has many enjoyable family feasts and celebrations. Muslims across the world will celebrate Eid in July, but the dates vary depending on the sighting of the moon to indicate that the Ramadan fast has come to an end. This year Eid is expected to take after the full moon, on 6 July 2016, and most Muslims will enjoy the holiday at this time. However, should the full moon be sighted on 4 July, then this shall mark the end of the fast after 29 days, and Eid Al-Fitr shall begin on 5 July as predicted by NASA. But if the full moon is only sighted on 5 July, then Ramadan will come to an end after 30 days, and Eid will be from 6-9 July this year. For those of you residing in the US, you'll be celebrating the festival on 6 July. The date was announced by the Fiqh Council of the United States (FCNA). Islamic Relief Canada stated that Canadians would also be celebrating from 6-9 July, as did Islamic Relief UK. So, the US, Canada, and the UK will have their holiday celebrations on the same dates as predicted. Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, will be at the Eid Food Festival taking place in Trafalgar Square on 9 July, which is something to look forward to if you're in the area. Eid usually lasts three days, but Pakistan celebrates for four days, and in Saudi Arabia Eid Al-Fitr lasts for eleven days, so depending on where you are this year, you might have a slightly longer Eid holiday. Turkey will have three official days to celebrate the Eid Al – Fitr holiday, from 5 July to 7 July, although the country will have a 9 - day public holiday as announced by Turkish Prime Minister, Binali Yildrim. In Turkish, Eid Al-Fitr is known to Turks as 'Seker Bayrami' or 'Ramazan Bayrami.' The 11 – day holiday for Saudi Arabia has begun from 30 June, and Qatar will start their holiday as of 3 July and also enjoy 11 days off. If you are in Oman this year, Eid begins on 5 July and lasts for five days. Eid in Pakistan will also begin on 5 July, but will last only four days.
